| Researcher Robert
Abbott sits among mounds of oysters shells at the San
Rafael shoreline in hope the shells, along with some
high-tech gadgetry, can help re-energize salmon runs in
the bay. The salmon fishery, which has been dwindling
over the past few years, hit a low point this spring; to
protect the shrinking population, the Pacific Fishery
Management Council banned salmon fishing this year off

| A MARIN
Municipal Water District desalination plant could
process 5 million gallons of water a day, cost $115
million to build and supply a large part of the county
with a drought-proof source of water, according to a
draft environmental analysis. Now water district

from the board on the project won't come until 2008.
When the board meets Wednesday night it will

| ED MEAGOR has
a chest of war stories to share. He even has a few fish
tales to tell. And he's happy to talk about Marin
County's past. The 70-year-old San Rafael native also
has some new adventures from the road to share.
"Old Ed," as he likes to call himself, could just
spend his days fishing, which he often does since he is
the president of the Marin Rod and Gun Club. But,
sometimes the fish just aren't challenging enough. |
