About the Marin Rod and Gun ClubOrganized in 1926, The Marin Rod and Gun Club is one of California's largest outdoor sporting clubs. The club was formed for the purpose of conservation, preservation and propagation of fish and game in Marin County, the State of California and the United States.
Our organization has grown from its original membership of 35 to well over 1200 members. We have enjoyed the support of the entire County. Good management, active membership and the lowest possible dues are responsible for the success of this club.
Through the years our organization has acquired over 55 acres of uplands and tide-lands on San Pablo Bay at Point San Quentin, adjacent to the Marin County side of the Richmond-San Rafael bridge, allowing ideal accessibility for use by our members. Through hard work and foresight by members during the years, the club has grown in membership and acquired many improvements through exceptional management.
Here in Marin County, the gateway to the Redwood Empire, sportsmen and women have been favored with many opportunities to fish and hunt to their heart's content.
LEGISLATION One of the highlights of our organization has been the role we have taken in working for the laws that are beneficial to the outdoor sportsman, to protect and conserve our fish and game. Our legislators have given us their full support on fish and game matters. We have had committeemen and members attend hearings in Sacramento in order to protect our interest.
One of the important, legislative encounters that we as a club participated in was the prohibiting of commercial fishing for striped bass in California waters. Our legislators and this club, along with other organizations, were successful in having the striped bass bill passed.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Each year the Marin Rod and Gun Club awards graduate scholarships in the fields of conservation, wildlife management and associated fields. The club also contributes to worthwhile charitable causes including: Trout and Salmon Unlimited, The United Anglers of Casa Grande High School, California Waterfowl Association, Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts of America, The Wild Care Center, Salmon Protection and Watershed Network and the National Rifle Association.
CONSERVATION Our organization has always been a leader in the conservation of fish and game. In the past as it is now, our club has been instrumental in stopping pollution of our bays and streams. When the club was in its infancy, we published several full-page advertisements asking the people of San Rafael to install a sewage disposal plant. With the help of the voters and our members, this was accomplished.
THE FISHING PIER Our fishing pier at Point San Quentin is one of the backbones of the club. The pier juts nearly one-half mile out onto the Bay and is open every day of the year. The pier is open for use by the members, their spouses and children up to 18 years of age, from sunrise to sunset. Striped bass, perch, sturgeon and halibut are just some of the fare that can be caught from our pier.
CLUBHOUSE The sportsman's clubhouse and bar of the Marin Rod and Gun Club was built in 1956 on the headlands of the pier. New improvements and additions have been made to the building throughout the years to keep up with the clubs needs. This is where our monthly meetings are held along with some of our many functions are: Movie Nights, St. Patrick's Day Dinner, Kids Day on the Pier, Mother's Day Brunch, Crab Feed, Italian Night and Monday Night Football just to name a few.
BOAT RAMP The boat ramp was built and is operated by the club for its members. It is located next to the pier with room for parking.
PICNIC GROUNDS Several acres of picnic and barbecue grounds are adjacent to the clubhouse. The grounds are protected from the west winds. In the building of the parking area, a rock sea wall was built to protect the grounds. Each year in July the annual barbecue picnic is held, attended by hundreds of family groups. Barbecue grills are provided for the use of members and their mends, and the grounds are always open during the picnic season.
MEET EVERY MONTH Our activities are numerous (as stated in this pamphlet) and are successful only by the participation and support of our members. Two of these activities are the monthly General meeting held on the third Friday of each month and the Board meeting on the first Tuesday. This is where you, as a member can have a voice in the direction of the club. Attendance is encouraged.
BINGO Another function the club offers the community is BINGO. Every Thursday night BINGO is held at the clubhouse and is open to the public. State of the art BINGO equipment, free donuts, tea & coffee and lighted parking is provided for attendees. HOME OF THE BIG BUCKS!!!
